Beyond the stars education

Since 2017, I have led the SCIVIS Romania program, dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and fostering inclusivity among future scientists and innovators.

Building on this foundation, I founded the Beyond The Stars Education Association in 2023, a non-profit organization committed to promoting access to space education for all Romanian students, with a particular focus on the inclusion of those with disabilities.

Beyond The Stars Education provides teachers and students with access to role models, mentors, educational training, and professional networks, supporting their career development in STEM and space-related industries.

Together, we are working to create a future where everyone has the opportunity to reach for the stars.
The story behind Beyond The Stars Education
“I can dream for more, and now I am working hard to accomplish it”—the story of a visually impaired student from Romania.

Imagine a visually impaired youth jumping off a Pamper Pole, experiencing Neutral Buoyancy, or landing a space shuttle on Mars. Beyond the Stars Education provides an incredible opportunity for Romanian visually impaired students to experience what it feels like to be an astronaut for seven days in a life-changing learning adventure.
The idea behind Beyond the Stars Education began in 2016 when I was selected as one of the few science teachers worldwide to participate in the HESA training at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Two years later, I became the HESA International Ambassador through NASA Education for the same program. During a presentation in 2016, I was shown a photo of a student atop a pole, jumping into the air (harnessed, of course) as part of the Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCIVIS) program. At the end of the presentation, I sought more information about the program and learned that the student was visually impaired. I was astonished, as many sighted individuals might hesitate to attempt such a feat. Additionally, I found out that the program offered full scholarships for international visually impaired students, but none of the recipients were from Romania. This realization stirred mixed emotions in me—I was both impressed by the program's concept and deeply saddened by the lack of opportunities for students in my country. Determined to change that upon my return home, I began searching for Romanian visually impaired students who had a passion for space, a good command of English, and an openness to embracing new opportunities.

Testimonials
Heartfelt Gratitude for the SCIVIS Space Camp Experience
I want to extend my deepest gratitude for the incredible opportunity to attend the space camp in Huntsville, Alabama. The experience has had a profound impact on my personal development and growth.
The activities were not only informative but also incredibly engaging. Each moment was a stepping stone towards a deeper understanding of space exploration, and I am grateful for the dedication and passion that the Space Camp brought to the program.
Among the myriad of activities, I found myself particularly captivated by the planetarium session. The immersive experience of exploring celestial wonders left a profound mark on my mind. The sense of wonder and awe instilled in me during that session will stay with me for a lifetime.
Additionally, I was truly inspired by all the staff and other important people who spoke to us and guided us through the week who generously shared their knowledge and experiences. Their expertise and dedication to space exploration were visible, and I left with a renewed sense of purpose and aspiration.
Once again, thank you for granting me this invaluable opportunity. It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of the SCIVIS Space Camp, and I am eager to carry forward the lessons and inspiration gained from this experience.
